Dear Fellow Members and Friends of Bethany,

“…I am making all things new.” Revelation 21:5 – Jesus

The theme for this year’s giving drive comes out of the book of Revelations. If we are not living in the “end times” it sure seems like it. Wars and rumors of wars abound. Yet, as followers of Christ we have our marching orders – we know our destiny – we are recipients of the promise. How then should we live?

Giving is an act of acknowledging that all we have comes from God. God only requires that we give a percentage of what we earn to the work of the Kingdom and sharing the Good News. Yet, some choose to withhold what they have and spend their money on things that don’t make a difference. At times it is not the wealthy who give the most but those who have the least. I think this is because they realize how much they depend on God. The reality is that we are all beggars – we all need God.

In this the 500th year since the Reformation we are called to continuously reform – repent – and be renewed by the Holy Spirit. We must sacrifice what we can to face the onslaught of secularism and atheism. You are the last line of defense. If you choose to spend your money in an unwise way, we will lack the resources to do the Good Work that we are called to carry on.

God asks us to give proportionately – that means a percentage of what we earn. The goal that God sets is a tithe – 10% – you may not be there in your giving and circumstances may prevent you from being able to do that. If you have the means to do this God desires that you do it or even go beyond it for the sake of the Kingdom work. Is your giving based on a percentage or do you just give a set amount based on what you’ve always done? Are you doing all you can or do you just make excuses for not following God’s guidelines?

It’s easy to figure out what you are giving. What do you earn each year – or what is your income estimate? What would 3% giving be for you? Maybe you are at 6% giving – could you make it 7% this year? It is the intent of your heart and mind that God wants to affect. God desires a generous people. Don’t be like those Hollywood elite or professional athletes who selfishly spend their money like water on themselves. They will receive their reward, the Bible tells us. We are to be different. We are not measured by worldly popularity but by heavenly standards.

God makes it easy to make changes. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9). Begin somewhere and make the first step.

1. Pray for God to guide you.
2. Set a goal
3. Make a proportionate giving pledge for 2018
4. Give regularly – weekly, monthly, or annually
5. Give by envelope, electronically, or with PushPay
6. Raise your pledge each year until you reach or exceed the goal

The rewards will become obvious over time.
God is making all things new and you are a part of that drive to accomplish this. A time is coming the Bible says when God will bring a close to this earth’s journey and we will see the Risen Christ face-to-face. Let’s make our mission together count in the time we have.

In Service to Jesus,
Pastor Dennis
